DJ’s Bio

As a former NFL athlete, Derrick “DJ” Townsel is no stranger to hard work and determination. After receiving a full scholarship to play college football, he went on to play with the Houston Texans in the NFL from 2010-2011. After playing with two other NFL organizations and two other professional leagues, he focused his attention on personal training to help others realize their physical and mental potential.

DJ began practicing yoga in 2012 as a way to prevent injuries from his football career. He wasn’t comfortable practicing in public at the time, so he turned to online videos and studied the history and principles of yoga on his own. He eventually completed his 200-hour teacher training and decided to teach yoga full-time.

DJ currently transforms lives as a yoga teacher, acroyoga instructor, certified personal trainer, Level 2 WCO Calisthenics Instructor, and health coach based in Orlando, FL. His global classes and retreats have inspired people who didn’t think fitness or yoga was a possibility for them. He is dedicated to spreading light and love to the world, whether it's through conversation or yoga and fitness.
